Hi, I just joined! Love this movie to bits.
Anyway, my stepmom just watched this movie and came up with a very interesting idea.
She thinks that Roberta Sparrow and Karen Pomery are either the same person(through time travel though I don't think so) or they are somehow related.
It makes lots of sense really.
Examples of proof:
-Pomery not only pretty much hooked Gretchen and Donnie up, but also led Donnie to Sparrow's cellar because the last thing she told him about was "cellar door"(all of this leads up to frank's murder all in all)
-Pomery didn't wake up at the end when all the "manipulated living" did from their dreams(just sorta a strange point that makes her different from everyone else)
-Sparrow used to work as a science teach. at Middlesex High and Pomery's husband is the science teacher and had the book. Pomery's choice of book was ironic compared to what happened at the school(The Destructors, a good storry also)
Well, I don't know if you guys really dug that deep into the whole movie, and I don't even know if any of this is relevant and worth while, but I found it interesting.
Tell me what you guys think!
Aloha

Didn't she wake up in the arms of Noah Wiley's character? -

Re: A hello and an idea
Mon, April 11, 2005 - 6:53 PMNo, he was reaching to wake her, but then didn't, I guess realizing that she was sleeping peacfully.
It shows it better in the Director's cut in the filming diary thing on the second disc.

Re: A hello and an idea
Sun, April 10, 2005 - 8:23 PMInteresting... but the way the "physics" are set up by Richard Kelly- ALL the "manipulated living" are having a hand in directing Donnie towards the "ensurance trap" wherby he "completes his mission" in righting the rip in time by traveling through "gods channel"- there are only two "manipulated dead": Frank & Gretchen(not her real name)... if anyone is POSSIBLY related to Roberta, I always felt she was--WHAT is her REAL name? We never see her family...to me she is the key to this puzzle of a film. -

Re: A hello and an idea
Sun, April 10, 2005 - 8:30 PMThis is from an earlier post concerning Noah and Drew's relationship-
"Also, regarding the scene where Drew and Noah look at each other in the teachers lounge and say Donnie's name. I think I have a good theory on why this happened. In the end, when everyone is waking up and remembering their "dream", you'll notice that Drew and Noah are together in bed. My theory is that they somehow picked up on the fact that they are in a so-called "waking dream" i.e. the parallel dimension, and realizing that they are sharing the same dream. " -

Re: A hello and an idea
Sun, April 10, 2005 - 9:14 PMYeah, i've always felt that there is so much more that we don't get to see in the movie...especially Gretchen. That aside, something that has always intrigued me is the very end of the movie with Gretchen waving to Mrs Darko...something so odd about that moment! I suppose it could just be an illustration of those that were manipulated having some sort of déjà vu but yet there just seems to be more to it. -

Wed, April 13, 2005 - 11:55 AMhmmmm, yeah always thought it was strange that she didn't show any reaction at the end...thought it might have been that she was at peace cause she actually didn't loss her teaching job..

Re: A hello and an idea
Tue, May 3, 2005 - 6:24 PMBoth Sparrow and Pomeroy exist in the same time continuum. I don't think you can have two different versions of yourself in the same "time dimension". It would cause a paradox.

Re: A hello and an idea
Sat, May 7, 2005 - 12:37 AMit's all relative.
it's all quantum.
it's all what we make of it.
it's all what you choose to believe.
it's all happening.
it's all dimensional.
it's all consuming.
it's all right.
it's all worth it.
It's all in how you look at it.
it's all good.
