I just got the directors dvd and really think the movie has been so altered from its original "puzzle" that it now has become too linear and literal. I think the original version was far better because it made you have to really think and invest yourself in its ideas to come away with all of its various possible meanings and ideas... it has now become a "star trek" time travel/alternate reality thingy to me... i feel SO let down by this "new" cut. At least the original is safe and sound on dvd- the way Frank would want it.

Re: Directors Cut VS. The Original Version
Mon, March 7, 2005 - 11:34 PMI'll agree...the directors cut has some really cool moments but over all it drags and there's alot of feeling left out in some scenes...I've just seen it on the big screen and yes I enjoyed it but I have to say the orig is much better! -

Re: Directors Cut VS. The Original Version
Fri, March 11, 2005 - 7:35 AMAfter having listened to the commentary track on the new dvd, which was funny cuz of kevin smith, i have to state that this new version REALLY was a stupid remix to even bother with, the "comic book" sci-fi connecting sequences just don't add a damn thing, and really do make the audience out to be so stupid that it all has to be explained to them or they just can't figure it out... which almost ALL darko fans are not!! These new sequences remind me of some bad sci-fi channel crap- stuff i wouldn't even bother with, much less think about. So back to the original version i go... and the only one i recommend to people. -

Wed, April 13, 2005 - 8:31 AMAmen, amen. I've ranted about this in other tribes, but I can't believe how much the director's cut of my favorite movie blew. You nailed it on the head with the comic book sequences and over explanation. The sublime beauty fo the first movie was its lack of explanation, its mystery! -
